Location Christchurch

Scope & Scale

Staged construction in operational school campus.

Enabling works – minor modifications to existing building, relocation of server room and removing two portable buildings.

New build – construction of new building compromising of hall/gym floor, and four classrooms. The hall interior is clad in Decortech which commanded a high-quality level of finish.  The exterior consists of a mix of architectural and aluminium cladding systems.

Linkblock – demolition of old teaching block, extension and reclad of current building and minor modification of the building envelope to an existing classroom block.

Landscaping finished off the works and created an outdoor play area.

Performance

The staged project necessitated complex planning and coordination with the school to ensure sufficient teaching space was always available and required the management of multiple Certificates for Public Use applications with the Council.

The steep hill location called for the construction of a new site access road and involved significant sediment control and diligent monitoring following any heavy rain events.

Progress was interrupted by COVID19 Alert level lockdowns which caused frustration to both the school and HRS.

The local MP was present for the opening of the new school hall.

Programme: Extended due to COVID19 Alert level lockdowns and other variation related extensions of time.

Health & Safety: Nil incidents / LTI’s. Managed the introduction of new COVID19 safety protocols set by the Ministry.

Budget: Increased due to COVID19 Alert level lockdowns and other variation related extension of time.
