Taking on the challenges of owning a construction company was a natural progression for me, cementing (excuse the pun) my commitment to the construction industry. I enjoy nothing more than transforming clients’ dreams into reality. What I’m really good at (and that also goes for Richard too), is listening, quickly gaining an understanding of a client’s business, how this influences the build they are after and offering my construction expertise to provide the right solution for the business fit.  I like to think that clients are looking to work with a main contractor that brings solid experience, integrity, commitment, and enthusiasm to the table. That’s who we are at HRS.

It’s important to me that there is a seamless transition between contract award and execution of the physical build.  I provide the necessary leadership and vision of project objectives and outcomes to the project team.  I’m actively involved in the day-to-day operations of our projects and support the project team by ensuring the necessary processes and resource is in place to achieve project requirements for safety, programme and quality. It’s not unusual of me to add a pinch of humour into the day – it can relieve the pressure in an often demanding work environment.

We give due credit to our team – without them there would be no HRS.

They are reliable, constantly going the extra mile, making use of all day light hours, (and night when it’s necessary). Being credible, committed, supportive and confident in their roles is at the core of their qualities.

Contract Managers
Contract Managers

We employ three highly skilled Contract Managers, who provide operational support for projects and the company in general. They administer all aspects of the secured project, ensuring all requirements are met in relation to onsite health and safety, quality and environment. As senior managers they govern and oversee two to four projects at any given time and generally maintain the contractual relationship with the client and are available 24/7.

Our Site Managers typically work on a single project. They are responsible and take ownership of all site based activities, reviewing drawings and specifications, ensuring that the installed work, workmanship and materials meet specified requirements, quality control and programme, working through design issues with the project team, health and safety management, liaising with sub-contractors and ensuring delivery of programme.

Site Staff
Site Staff

HRS site staff are either trade qualified (New Zealand Certificate of Carpentry or equivalent) or are training through an Apprenticeship with HRS. Upskilling and training our staff ensures that we are doing everything possible to deliver excellence in our work. When hiring due consideration is given to school leavers and underrepresented groups who may find it hard to become gainfully employed because of discrimination. We are proud to work alongside companies such as Site Safe and BCITO.

Quantity Surveyors
Quantity Surveyors

Our team are fully qualified, holding a tertiary qualification in Construction or Quantity Surveying. They manage the tender or quotation financials and are involved with post tender negotiations, subcontractor selection and continue to manage costs throughout the lifecycle of a project. They are all naturally disciplined and work methodically to ensure fair and reasonable variation costs are submitted and monthly progress claims are presented to clients for assessment.

Compliance Manager
Compliance Manager

HRS's high standard of performance in health and safety, quality and enforcement of compliance requirements is managed through informal and formal audit processes. Improvements identified are communicated to the team. Compliance documentation for Code of Compliance and management of completion/hand over documentation is controlled by our Compliance Manager, ensuring clients receive quality manuals, as-builts and guarantees in a timely manner.

Accounts Team
Accounts Team

Our company Accountant and Accounts Administrator work collaboratively to administer financial accounts including incoming and outgoing accounts and cash flow. They perform office management tasks including company insurances, lease arrangements and fleet management. We comply with retention regulations with all retention monies being held in trust in separate accounts.
