Scope and Scale 

HRS has assisted Smith City with their site development since 2003 when it undertook a redevelopment of their existing building for strengthening (to meet Code), extension, new façade and internal reconfiguration. Much of the main structure survived the 2011 Canterbury earthquakes. HRS returned to demolish, re-strengthen, repair structural cracks, replace ceiling grid with new, undertake electrical repairs, create temporary staff facilities, and place a temporary wall to allow trading and significant remodeling for off street parking. (Existing roof carpark collapsed in the earthquakes) 

In 2014 HRS were back to help Smith City undertake a complete remodeling (removing temporary walls and facilities) creating new back -of-house staff facilities, and reconfigured the building internally to increase floor retail and storage space.  

Performance 

• Negotiated procurement with HRS providing early contractor involvement in build-ability detailing, material selection and sequencing. 
• Supported client in response to earthquake recovery and return to trading. 
• Smith City continued to trade during construction. Customer care, communication and co-operation with Smith City staff was paramount to a successful relationship and progressing of the works. 
• Achieved quality of finish and met expectations for programme and cost.
