Bio Diesel NZ

Client Bio Diesel NZ Ltd | Date of Completion Dec 2009 | Duration 12 months | Contract Value $4.8million

Scope and Scale

Originally HRS tendered work for the construction of ancillary buildings; seed press building, transformer, dryer and conveyor pads, weigh- bridge, including all in-ground services, site works and fencing, being the first stage of the multi-million dollar grain storage, handling and processing linseed facility. Eight silo bases were client provisional sums as these structures were waiting final design.

The eight 18m reinforced concrete silo bases (to take 1200 tonne silos) included significant in-ground grain tunnels/receptors, and all in-ground services.

Performance

HRS used their experience, methodologies, structure co-ordination and lesson learnt from work at the Synlait site to assist Bio Diesel in the developing design of silo bases.

Large concrete pours were managed through appropriate planning of programme and resource.

The interface between bases and installation of structure and plant responded well. HRS worked co-operatively with separate plant installation contractor.

Environmental plans included controls for soil containment, dust and excavation works.

Programme: Achieved programme to meet Rap seed harvest (January)
Health & Safety: Nil incidents, complied with rigorous site health and safety requirements.
Budget: Achieved budget, however client’s provisional sums were undervalued.
